Presses from the Bottom from the Clean

So we have a second coach who is working with us in Barbell Club, and he's got a fair amount more coaching experience as well as a lot more of a anatomy & physiology plus martial arts background than the Alpha Wolf himself.  This is part of a deload cycle, and part of the deload cycle involves working on dynamic movements. And thus, he introduced the presses from the bottom of the clean, which apparently was the original Sots press.

I started off with the little kids' bar and built up to 35 lbs to figure out the logistics of executing the press properly. Breathing and remembering to move my head back upon initiating the upward motion were key to surviving.  Thank goodness for the strict overhead press work yesterday!

And then I played with 45 lbs to see how things worked.  Overall, I'd say it was a success.  Things felt pretty good, even if being at the bottom of a squat never looks very flattering. This is all practice for in case I ever get stuck having to do a squat jerk vs a power jerk or a split jerk (preferred).
