TBoF Charity Shoot 2009

As always, click on the title to see the full album from the 2009 TBoF Charity shoot. In a strange mixture of luck and miracles and disappearing archers, I tied for first place in women's longbow with 300/400 and the next person behind me was at 290. It was a very, very close shoot. My first round was rather embarrassing with several shots that went astray, resulting in a 130/200 but the second round, aside from a few "what the frequency are we shooting at?" moments, I nailed it with a 170/200.

One of my favorite targets at the shoot, which I didn't photograph, was a beaver target. Between the beaver being the Caltech mascot and the general potty humor surrounding beavers, well, I think it was nearly impossible to make a good shot on it. Plus there's just something inherently funny about Castor canidensis ... or rodents in general for that matter. At least the target wasn't one of the Heteromyidae rodents or it would've been a real bugger to hit!

I will hopefully write some more once my brain cells regenerate!

Bass on Orange Lake

This was earlier in the month. We caught some pretty nice bass, but alas, I didn't get to eat any of them. The guy who took us fishing ended up giving these fish to some friends of his... and I was so looking forward to having some bass for dinner!

This deer was just too small to shoot this year but maybe next year. She's a devious little one, stomping, blowing, and running to convince the other deer that there's danger before eating all the soybeans laid out. I think this one is asking to be culled with her rather interesting behavior. I gotta admit though, she's smarter than the average deer to do something like that!
