I'm still a recurve / longbow person but the compound make for a great training tool as well as a method of self-entertainment.
There's the targets from 10-50 meters away.
The 40 meter bear target. Apparently I do have some skill with the compound!
Someone taught me compound extremely well! This was 18 meters away. I think it's time for the 3 spot target!
I destroyed another arrow today with some amazing precision now that I know how to properly use a hinge release.
The (mis)adventures and thoughts of an aspiring master archer, lifter, and fantasy author who happens to be irresistibly drawn towards wolves, raptors, and parrots. They may say there's no such thing as Paradise or Perfection, yet I'm still searching for them. Why do I keep searching? A voice speaks to me and says: "Search for Paradise and aspire for Perfection"...

Compound Fun With Updated Form
Apparently I've been misusing my releases and someone decided to intervene to correct me...
Ultimately I ended up shooting a hinge release, which is the one in this video. I guess I do have a lot of back tension even when ultra-sore from WODs of Doom (tm) and my back isn't handling 0% let-off!

Random Compound Selfie Fun
After Monday's back/shoulder destruction day that included 100 assisted Pull-ups of Doom, rowing, deadlifts, overhead presses (including a 70# PR), and much more with drop sets and burnout sets, I knew I was in NO condition to shoot my usual style based on my attempts at low poundage SPT. I did the next best thing, which was to use the compound, which gives me a lot of let-off and allows me to focus on aiming and follow through.

Training for Field
It was a relatively bug-free day courtesy of the recent freeze so I got to spend some time training for field, which I realized was a lot tougher than I thought because I can *barely* see the pin on my sight against the target. Today I focused on cleaning up my form and calibrating my 20 and 25 yard marks. I didn't get too much further because the mosquitoes decided to come for me once the sun started shining. I did get a gratuitous picture of me exploring a potential next frontier too. Can you guess what style it might be?

900 Redux at the Villages
I shot a 900 round at the Villages today at the invitation of several friends I haven't seen nearly enough of this past year.
The Villages range itself... perfect weather too!
Awesome practice round at 60 yards. Note the cardboard patch in the center of the target. Some people love to abuse the centers!
One of my fellow archers, a young doctor who may not be the most quantitative of people but has a knack at target-slaying when he uses the right limbs for his bow!
One of the greatest barebow compound archers I've ever encountered. And his bow actually sounds great when he string-walks!
My target-mates of the day, both from Geneva Archers in the Orlando area. Yeah I think I'm a little bit on the short side next to my shooting-mates.
All in all, a very successful day!
Gold medalists in men's recurve, youth women's recurve, men's compound, and women's recurve. One of these archers is also actually Olympic caliber and I've heard a lot of stuff about how he could've been on the Cuban Olympic archery team.

Gator Bowmen 900 Round
We need some good hard freezes but even the cooler weather does make life a lot easier for me to go to Gator Bowmen. I had the option of shooting a 28 target animal round but as an Olympic recurve, I'd probably only shoot 28 scoring arrows plus I'd have to go through Bug Alley, which is a stretch of the field course where the bugs are so thick that I could literally be in a hijab and covered in 3 cans of DEET and permetherin and still get carried away by the local mosquitoes and flies.
Gator Bowmen practice butts for field...
Gator Bowmen 900 field, which we hardly ever get to use. It's relatively bug-free.
Someone's freezing there. Gotta love our target-slaying compounders.
Spider!
Hace mucho frio!!
Voices of wisdom, including my routine arch-rival Frank, who actually did end up destroying me today in a 687 to 627 round. I also had the advantage of a sight and a stabilizer and a clicker! Maybe next time I can turn the tables around again! That 687/900 though is an *amazing* score for barebow, especially considering how long he's been around!
Compound power!
Is it really *that* cold? Most of the shooters acted like it was sub-zero temperatures. It was *almost* shorts and shirt weather for me. The long stuff was more for mosquito control than anything else.
Olympic recurves unite!
Spider!!
Best round all day at 50 yards. My first two were a bit high but the rest got into place! The next several shots of me and on the line are courtesy of A. Skelton, who dutifully watched and photographed us and her daughter, Bug.
Spider!
Gator Bowmen is a wonderful place for spider-ing! I love spiders!
59 yard shot on the animal round. I only got through the first two targets before I saw the Mosquito Army flying towards me, intent on draining me of all of my blood once they carry me away to where there's no phone signal.
Got this guy on the first shot and in the bonus too - which I don't remember counts as a tie-breaker 20 or a 21.
