Dug these upon my computer recently... Think these were from one of my many trips to gardens that happen to have animal displays as well. In any event, I seem to have a way of making friends with parrots especially when there's food in my hand!
The (mis)adventures and thoughts of an aspiring master archer, lifter, and fantasy author who happens to be irresistibly drawn towards wolves, raptors, and parrots. They may say there's no such thing as Paradise or Perfection, yet I'm still searching for them. Why do I keep searching? A voice speaks to me and says: "Search for Paradise and aspire for Perfection"...

International Round at Citrus Archers, 2013 Dec 22
My very first round after getting laid low by what felt like the plague, courtesy of my little disease vectors. Holy cow, my form has gone to hell for release and follow-through! Time to get cracking on it once I can get back to the training center or moral equivalent! Photographs courtesy of S. Fitzgerald, whose husband I had the honor of shooting with and teaching him the ropes.

CrossFit Iron Legion Members' Mayhem 1 (September)
Courtesy of Jesse Clements Photography and CrossFit Iron Legion
No photographs (yet) of the first WOD... where I tied for second in the event and involved an ascending ladder of 65 lb hang power cleans and 2:1 ab-mat sit-ups (because I couldn't quite do knees-to-elbows or toes-to-bars yet) in 10 minutes.
The second WOD consisted of walking 400 meters with a 55 lb barbell in rack hold (female scaled B division) and doing a thruster every 15th step and 5 burpees for every time the barbell hit the ground. I only did 5 burpees throughout and took first place in this event.

The third and final WOD was 75 snatches or clean and presses (basically any way of getting the bar from the ground to overhead) at 55 lbs with a time cap of 10 minutes and 2 burpees over the bar every minute on the minute. I took 3rd in this one.
I took an overall first in the scaled B division! The second WOD was my salvation and what allowed me to pull ahead of my entire competition!Wednesday, November 06, 2013

Seacrest Wolf Preserve
Let's just say it involved a fit of pique and a need to get away from most humans and a need to spend some time with some magnificent furry creatures.
Standing behind me are Forrest, Brazos, and Canyon, three boys once known as the "Brat Pack" and offspring of the gentle giant Minquah and adorable little Sage, who kissed me last year. Forrest decided that he really likes me and that I could use a good kiss.
At least Forrest doesn't like boogers or my nostrils would probably be a little bigger now!

Finally Did It!
My dead-lift 1RM has gone from 195 lbs to 215 lbs! Let's see how much more over 200 lbs I can gain on my dead-lift by the new year! I was the ultra-wimpy person in the class though, as I was the only sub-300 lb dead-lift in the group.
There was also a bit of gratuitous zombie abuse at the Orange and Blue Archery practice session yesterday at 18 meters with my trusty longbow. I think I'll be well-prepared for the zombie-slaughtering season!

Dinner and a WOD
This was from dinner with Khatuna Lorig and the rest of the folks who participated in Day 1 of her training session and seminar.
I did the ultra-wimpy version of the WOD by going down to 65 lbs on the hang power clean. Then again... I'm still working on form and 65 lbs was pretty challenging! The 800 meter run was in the dark street under foggy and wet conditions, so my time wasn't too bad for the conditions, plus my legs were *fried* from the split-jumps and the hang power cleans! One of these days I'm going to actually Rx a WOD -- got a lot of work to do but I'm determined to Rx as many WODs as possible!
